Spine surgery – 6 weeks post op

Many other parents I spoke to said that after 6 weeks things take a quick turn for the better. I would say Cole is falling into that same category. He is pretty much at his baseline with sitting up, walking, running, etc. However, he is slightly limited with the full torso brace. He went from hating the brace for the first few days to loving the brace and wanting it on 24/7. It supports him and not having it makes him nervous. I’m glad he likes it because if he didn’t it would be difficult to insist he wears it 23 hours a day, which is the Doctors order. I’ve been watching Cole like a hawk to see if I notice improvements since having this surgery. Obviously, with an 89 degree curved spine there is no choice, but to have this surgery to avoid crushing of the organs. However, with that being said, we were expecting with a straighter spine for Cole to have better balance, walk with more ease, climb stairs, and do other things that most 6yr olds can do. Truthfully, I haven’t noticed any improvement yet but I also recognize it’s only been 6 weeks.
